Fireman N P Palmer 34 of Erwin Tennessee died when a Carolina Clinchfield and Ohio passenger train collided with a helper engine three miles south of Spruce Pine North Carolina. Engineer Jerry Sublett was seriously injured and about a dozen others were hurt. An investigation followed the wreck.
