Brisk Demand Lifts Stocks At Close
The market surged late as demand rose for railroad utility amusement and tobacco shares with gains of 1 to 8 percent. Early declines of 1 to 3 points faded and the session closed strong with about 1.6 million shares traded. Warner Bros pools led the amusement group while Paramount Famous Lasky and Radio Keith Orpheum remained in brisk demand. Weekly reviews were cautious though rate cuts were seen as stimulating building and construction activity.
