Asheboro restaurant operator Kenyon L. Davidson 41 announced Friday his bid for one of Randolph County Board of Commissioners seats as a Republican. He would challenge incumbents Ira McDowell Bi Farlow and Colon Byrd, with Byrd considering re election. Davidson has 23 years in Asheboro business and serves in local community groups while opposing certain fundraising suppers by volunteer fire departments. He and his wife Mary Martin have three children.

False Fire Alarms Alarmed Firemen Twice Friday
Firemen answered two false alarms Friday both described as malicious. The first at 2 51 p m targeted Hoover Thissell Streets intersection, the second at 9 40 p m from Fairview Loflins streets corner. A sprinkler system burst at Snow Lumber Co triggered 1 23 p m alarm. No fire occurred. Two other runs involved field fires caused by children playing with matches.

Sheriff Shot and Deputy Housed After Roxboro Killings
In Roxboro North Carolina deputy sheriff Clifton Palmer was killed when former mental patient Lamberth Drumwright shot him after refusing to leave his home. Drumwright was slain by responding deputies. Deputy Wallace Tingen was injured and hospitalised.

60 Year Old Man Dies In Fire in Asheboro
Clifton Kearns, 60, died from asphyxiation after a fire destroyed a four room house at 210 Burns Street in Asheboro. Neighbors reported the blaze shortly after 10 p.m. Investigators consider kerosene used to start the kitchen stove as a possible ignition source.

FBI investigates Greensboro EOC altercation between two employees
