State considers Grandfather Mountain park and civil court reform

A plan to acquire Grandfather Mountain for state or national park, with a $150 input and 500 to 1500 acres in multiple counties, is proposed. A bill would give the North Carolina Supreme Court authority over civil procedure in all lower courts with a 10 member advisory panel and attorney general. Other measures would create county capital reserve funds, allow tax remissions on federal military land seizures, and budget oversight over barber examiners. The Senate approved several House bills and finance committee actions included tax adjustments for theatres and bottlers. The education committee backed extending the school term to nine months.
