Pre School Clinics Urged to Aid Incoming Students
State Board of Health urges all organizations including health departments and parent teacher associations to organize pre school clinics for five to six year olds. Last year nurses examined over 7000 children and more than 60 percent of defects found were corrected before school opening. Efforts to extend this program to all 100 counties are planned for this fall.

Commercial Secretaries to Meet February in Statesville
The annual meeting of North Carolina commercial secretaries will be held in Statesville at the Vance hotel on February 14 and 15. Host Bailey T Groome of the Statesville chamber of commerce expects a large turnout with speakers including Dr. D W Daniel of Clemson College and E P Dickie of the U S Chamber of Commerce Southeast division. Other noted speakers include Grant Isaacs of the U S Department of Foreign and Domestic Commerce and Park Mathewson of the state conservation and development department. Clarence O Kuester will oversee a question box for secretaries.

Keep Deposits in Bank Governor Gardner Urges
Raleigh February 7 Governor O Max Gardner urged North Carolina’s wealthy men larger banks and business corporations to keep cash in North Carolina banks to help smaller banks survive the bad crop year. He said deposits would allow larger banks to build reserves to aid smaller lenders and curb rising nerves and hysteria. He added that public confidence and cooperation from big business are essential.

Two Gastonia Men Held In Robbery
In Gastonia on February 7, Robert Harris and Welborne Hampton, both white youths from Oscelon Mill area, were arrested for robbing grocer R. L. Bell of 300 dollars last night. Bell identified Harris as a former filling station employee. both men deny the charges and are held for further investigation.
