Rescue of Princess Anne Passengers at Rockaway Point

Rescue by Coast Guard and police landed 32 passengers and 28 crew members from the Princess Anne at Rockaway Point after the steamship ran aground on a sand bar bound from Norfolk to New York. Captain Frank Seay was injured and taken ashore. 44 crew remained aboard. Coast Guard boats aided early in the effort and two barges from Manhattan assisted.

Secretary Lane has submitted his resignation to President Wilson. The resignation takes effect March 1 and ends his tenure as Secretary of the Interior at the start of the Wilson administration. Lane previously chaired the Interstate Commerce Commission.

Conferees Agree on Railroads Return Measure

Washington Feb 7 A government guarantee of five and a half percent of the railroads’ aggregate value would run for two years under an agreement reached by Senate and House conferees. After two years the return would be set by the Interstate Commerce Commission. The report could be ready by Feb 16 with enactment hoped before March 1 when railroads return to private control.

Funeral for Mrs Moer Held Near City

The funeral of Mrs. Jacob Moer who died yesterday at 11:45 am at her home near the city was held at Mt. Pleasant church this morning at 1 4 o clock conducted by Rev. Joseph Hiatt of Winston-Salem. The interment followed in the church graveyard. Mrs. Moer was 53 and a daughter of the late Dr. H W Dorsett. Her husband survives with three brothers and two sisters and no children.
