Fire Destroys Home Seven Children Die in Springfield

SPRINGFIELD Mo Fire swept a four room frame house early today killing seven children and the mother of four of them. The dead include Evelyn Lillard 30 and her children Linda 6 Kay 4 Barbara 2 Johnny Jr 5 months Gary Letterman 4 Linda Lee Letterman 10 and Sandra Kay Letterman 11. John Lillard 28 escaped with severe burns as the parents were divorced and the Letterman children had been staying with the Lillards while their mother lay hospitalized with a brain tumor. Origin of the fire undetermined.

Air Force C47 crashes in Alaska front during severe weather

Scott To Meet With Newsmen

Sprinkle enters race for U.S. Senate seat in North Carolina

Greensboro businessman Henry L. Sprinkle 69 filed to run for the U.S. Senate seat held by Alton Lennon. He would fund his campaign personally, seeks sound money and declined contributions. Four Chiapas Towns Damaged by Strong Quake

A powerful earthquake struck Chiapas in Mexico wrecking four towns Yajalon Petalcingo Chilon and Tila injuring and killing many residents. Mercy planes delivered doctors medicines and supplies while communications failed and tremors were felt across the United States New York Boston and Pasadena.

Hvasta Returns Home After Escape From Czech Prison

John Hvasta, a 26 year old Navy veteran from Hillside New Jersey, returned to Idlewild Airport and thanked God for his escape from a Czech prison and months on the run from police. He declined to discuss details of the imprisonment or escape, said he would publish his story, and credited Rep Peter Rodine Jr Alexis Johnson and George Wadsworth and the American embassy for help. He also thanked newspapers notably the Newark Star Ledger and avoided naming his Czech wife who is reportedly missing.

Fire truck destroyed in Winona grass fire

In Winona Texas the town's only fire truck was destroyed yesterday when a grass fire spiraled out of control. Firefighters fought the blaze and contained surrounding flames as local residents reported smoke and embers. The loss leaves the town without a dedicated fire response vehicle.
