Gunman Kills Self and Teen Hostage in Oceanside Siege
In Oceanside California 20 year old David Terrell used a borrowed .22 caliber rifle to seize three children as police surrounded the home. After hours of tense stand off 15 year old Leland Phelps was killed and Terrell shot himself. Eight year old Michelle Ryan and two sisters Melissa and Monique Ryan were involved as the siege unfolded. Local residents and officers described Terrell as a quiet man who preferred isolation.

California Federal Savings & Loan will offer check cashing savings and deposits at Hughes Market in Burbank expanding to four Vons Markets this month. Cal Fed notes 50 percent of checks are cashed in supermarkets and full service is available 11 hours daily, seven days a week. The terminal links to Cal Fed’s computer for instant posting. An evaluation is planned for July with similar trials in New York, Nebraska and Delaware.
