Strict controls govern surplus food recipients in Guilford County
The county surplus food program targets 7 800 residents with 14 monthly items. Public Assistance and needy categories face income checks and facility requirements, with tight reviews to keep rolls low. Data show a steady decline in recipients since 1962, aided by Homemaker classes promoting better use of food and meals for families, especially children.
