Former North Carolina congressman Thurmond Chatham of Elkin and Winston-Salem died today at Duke Hospital at age 60. Death was attributed to a heart attack. He represented North Carolina in Congress.

Gas Tanker Slams Into School Bus Near Pineville

An empty gasoline tanker sliding downhill in heavy rain struck the left rear of a Pineville school bus. Four of about 44 children were hurt with one seriously injured. Newsprint Price Rise To $134 A Ton In New York

International Paper Sales Co. said it will raise newsprint by 4 dollars per ton effective March 1. The move matches other firms and lifts Canadian newsprint in New York to 134 dollars a ton from 130. Vernon E. Johnson of Canadian International Paper Co. noted the rise reflects only part of labor, transport, pulpwood and material cost increases since 1956.
