Kennedy Signs Bill Easing Tax Impact On Du Pont Co
President Kennedy signed a law to cut the tax bite on Du Pont stockholders who would receive 63 million GM shares under the antitrust ruling. The measure halves the potential tax from more than $1 billion to about $470 million by treating the GM share transfer as a return of capital. The White House urged not to influence the court and to keep DOJ enforcement of the Supreme Court decision.
