Irene Marie Robbins of Gardena California revealed her past to sheriff deputies saying she is Ruth Crum. She served time after a 1938 burglary involvement in Havana Illinois and violated parole by marrying and leaving Illinois. After years of hiding she contacted her husband Franklyn Robbins to confess her past.
Influenza outbreaks in the Carolinas cut donor numbers for the Piedmont Carolinas blood program to about 1,000 pints weekly, far below the usual 1,400 to 1,500. A recruitment drive is under way and doctors are asked to be conservative in transfusions. The 27 county area spans from the Virginia line to Chester and Union SC.
Governor Hodges announced a special primary for May 28 to nominate candidates for Congress to fill the late Rep. David M. Hall term. If a runoff is needed it would be the fourth Friday after May 28. Filing deadline is March 18.
