Allen Jay High journalism class toured The High Point Enterprise offices on Jan 2 visiting WHPE radio station and the newspaper plant. Students observed teletype news, engraving, typesetting, and the printing press while Wayne Mashburn interviewed editor Donald Lomax.
Denton students raised 1736.08 for the March of Dimes with per capita gifts near 2.50. Principal Jones chaired the school effort and Weldon Royals led the campaign as general chairman. A final tabulation is to be completed soon. Local events included basket games, doll and flower shows, a folk party dance, and weekly allowance contributions.

A cyclist forced a tractor-trailer off a highway near Maryfield Convalescent Home at 4 p m. Clifford Kistner 37 Greens said the bike turned suddenly and the truck veered across the road smashing a sign and shrubbery. No injuries or charges were filed.
The Army and Air Recruiting Station reports increased enlistment openings for both services. Sgt. Snyder lists age 17 to 44 and at least a 10th grade education for general enlistment with options for aerial cadet training. Betty Baker will visit High Point monthly with WAC/WAF and Army Corps recruiters. WAC/WAF applicants must be 18 to 34, single with no dependents, and provide references.
In St Louis a case before the Court of Criminal Correction discussed a woman claiming relief after her husband left her and their children. The woman argued she is better off financially without her husband and no longer wishes to live with him. The husband earns $260 a month and provides limited support.
London reports a Conservative candidate Iremonger, cousin of Foreign Secretary Anthony Eden, has been elected MP for Ilford defeating Labour rival Tom Richardson. The vote count stood 18,354 to 8?onera, with results in a traditional Pea revenue district.
Rev James W Lynch 506 Underhill Ave died here Wednesday after a long illness. Born in Rutherford he lived about 15 years in town and worked with the N C Employment Security Commission in Kinston. Surviving wife Mrs Galatia Lynch three sisters and three brothers. Funeral Friday at 3 30 p m at St Mark Methodist Church with Rev L M Mayfield and Rev W S McLeod officiating. Burial in Greenhill Cemetery.
