Ellen Rossiter seeks Nightwork to fund family crisis
Ellen Rossiter, a Barclay's salesgirl, agrees to night work as a Dreamland hostess to help her mother Molly and brother Mike after their father's fortune dwindles. She auditions at Dreamland, faces exploitation, and clashes with manager Jacob Salomon who pressures dress and tips for pay. Ellen later confronts employer Barclay’s owner Steven Barclay about her job security as the chapter ends.
