Equalizing Board Denies Complaint On Tax Relief Claims
The State Board of Equalization argues state aid from the school equalization and county road funds reduced local property taxes in 98 counties for 1929-30. It notes in 11 counties the school tax would have been higher without aid, with Clay county example showing 75 cents instead of 1.23 dollars. The report lists 29 counties where 50 percent or more of the current tax would have been needed absent aid, detailing current rates and hypothetical rates, and emphasizes overall tax relief from increased appropriations.

Counties See Wide Tax Reductions From Equalization Fund
The state board of equalization reports nationwide relief as 96 counties cut taxes. In many counties the rate dropped up to 50 cents per 100 valuation. Sixty seven counties reduced the six month school term rate, with the rest delayed due to insufficient funds. Special school district rates were also slashed, some by half. Authorities anticipate broader cuts next year as funds were largely used to cover prior deficits.
