Hoover urges Americans to fund Belgian relief during war
Herbert Hoover, head of the Belgian relief commission, told New York Chamber of Commerce that American donations have been only nine million dollars despite a 150 million dollar program and urged monthly support of six to eighteen million dollars to aid 10 million Belgians and northern France. He warned that subsidies may end, calling for a national trusteeship of American wealth to sustain relief and prevent European bitterness.
