An informal survey of ten High Point readin grocery stores shows housewives largely cooperate with the government's fats saving program. Grocers report satisfactory fat flow with some noting varied participation and small amounts turned in locally.
Rev. Sam Wiley of Greensboro spoke to the local Rotary Club about knowledge, faith, and responsibility. He urged members to act now, stressing that the future depends on effort and trust in God rather than doubt.
Continued cold conditions persist this afternoon and tonight across North Carolina South Carolina and Georgia with subfreezing readings likely in rural areas and urban pockets. Temperatures remain well below normal with light winds and limited precipitation expected through the period.
L R Terry of High Point had his left leg amputated at Duke Hospital. He was on the operating table for nearly four hours performing a back operation and the amputation under spinal anesthesia. He remained conscious throughout and his condition was reported satisfactory this afternoon.
Tax listing will start January 1 in Guilford County. Tax Supervisor T. R. Short urged all residents and firms owning real or personal property to file in January to avoid penalties. A 10 percent late listing penalty applies and poll tax returns for men aged 21 to 50 have a 31 minimum penalty. High Point Township list taking at the County Building 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays, 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Saturday, and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday evenings. List takers include B. E. Poston, H. A. Wood, W. B. Shields, C. B. Overman, E. F. Edwards, and Paul Farington.

Tonight Mt Vernon Baptist Church hosts a special watch service. Pastor Rev F Bass delivers a sermon. A church meeting precedes at 8 o clock, followed by the watch service starting at 10 o clock.
Cpl Marvin Clark of Alaska visits Mrs Baldwin and friends in Chapel Hill before returning north. The Junior Chamber of Commerce will not meet tonight but attends a get acquainted party at the Sheraton Hotel for employees of the Demobilized Records Branch of the Adjutant General's Office. Wives of members invited. Mention of popular American films in Siam.
Four members of the Ethi opian Pacific movement were convicted in a federal court of sedition and conspiracy. The group included Leonard Robert Jordan described as the Black Hitler, Lester Hol ness Thornhill James Henry Thornhill and Rev Ralph Green Best. A white defendant Joseph Harterey pleaded guilty. Sentencing set for Jan 11 with maximum 40 years.
