Pueblo Enlisted Men Describe Beatings in Captivity
Two Pueblo crewmen, J. C. Law Jr. and Lee R. Bayer, will recount beatings endured during 11 months of North Korean captivity at a San Diego news conference. Cmdr. Loyd Bucher, the Pueblo’s commander, said captors used terror to control the crew. A Navy spokesman noted the crew saw maltreatment but emphasized the threat of beatings was the core tactic.

The U S Command said five representatives will go New Year’s Day to a second meeting with the Viet Cong near Saigon to seek release of three American prisoners. The Viet Cong are expected to send equal unarmed reps and no other forces will be within six tenths of a mile of the site.
