Veterans Protest Over Randolph County Veterans Officer Pick
In Asheboro a meeting of veterans at the American Legion is called for 7 30 p m to protest the selection of Jimmy Weldon Smith of Asheboro for the State Veterans Service officer post. The seat was given to a non veteran despite T E Myatt of Asheboro and others seeking the job. Myatt says he was not told he would be passed over and claims Smith should be replaced.

Wounded Man Isn't Dead Family Says
Elbert Nealey brother of David Monroe Nealey shot at a Cleveland bar last Friday is alive according to the Nealey family though police had earlier believed him dead. Elbert Nealey was also shot by bar owner Vincent Curva and is reportedly recovering in a Cleveland hospital. Lt. Frank Walker says no official confirmation about Elbert Nealey’s status. David Monroe Nealey died shortly after the shooting.
