Kidnap Case Raises Ransom Demand Fear In Tacoma

In Tacoma on December 30 1936 Lt Col Gus B Appelby linked to Charles Mattson kidnapping spent 40 minutes at Dr W Mattson’s mansion and left by car amid new fears for 10 year old Charles. Family officials warned a $28000 ransom could be paid before nightfall as investigators pursue leads including ads and a grandmother intermediary offer.

State Nears End of Evidence in Morrison Murder Trial

MARION December 30 state neared the end of its evidence in the trial of Lee Morrison of Cleveland County aged 33, charged with first degree murder in his mother Minnie Morrison. Prosecutors showed witnesses who said Morrison sought to obtain life insurance on his mother, then obtained one or two policies. G W Cowan game warden testified Morrison was forced from an oncoming truck after Morrison's car rolled into Lake near the road. he freed Morrison and the two went ashore while the mother’s body remained unrecovered for some time.

Miss Louise Norman Wilde Raleigh was elected president at the 1987 Dancing Masters of North Carolina convention in Durham. Two Men Freed As Cause Not Shown

WADESBORO December 20. Fred Hyatt and Carlton Ritter were released after a preliminary hearing failed to establish probable cause they killed Ray Kirk last Thanksgiving. Judge B T Hill of Anson superior court ordered their release after the hearing. The charges were brought by Mrs Lacy Dobbs Kirk, widow of the slain man.

Adam Proctor 21 and his brother were arraigned in municipal court on charges connected to the fatal shooting of Fred Cook of Mt. Airy. Proctor ordered held without bond, brother held on 1900 bail.
