Kearns to Speak on Boxing Promises and Demands
In a discussion spanning Chicago and Los Angeles, promoter Charlie Kearns hints at forceful talks ahead for a Schmeling Walker heavyweight bout. He recalls 1919 negotiations with Tex Rickard over Jess Willard’s title defense against Dempsey, where Kearns pressed for $50,000. The NABO pressures Schmeling to defend by January 4, leaving him little room to refuse a non-title bout.
