R. J. Reynolds Plans New World Headquarters
R J Reynolds Industries unveiled plans for a half million square foot world headquarters on Lard Street beside the Bowman Gray Development Center in Winston-Salem. The five story glass building features energy conservation tech, a central environmental system, solar reflecting Thermopane glass, and auto adjustments to temperature and lighting. It will include a large cafeteria, a Reynolds Carolina Credit Union branch, and a 380 seat amphitheater. Completion is targeted for fall 1977. The corporate staff will be housed there along with two subsidiaries while the Tobacco Company remains downtown.
