Hassell guarded in Texas jail after confessions

George J. Hassell, a Texas Panhandle rancher, is held in the Farewell county jail under guard after admitting to slaying thirteen people. He confessed to killing his wife and eight children at his ranch dugout and to the California killings of a woman and three children. He wounded himself during the ranch search and is recovering.

Robert Walker Named President of Pickett Mills Group

Robert Walker former vice president and director of Pickett Cotton Mills in High Point was elected president and treasurer to fill the vacancy caused by F. M. Pickett’s death. J. Girl Bandits Fail In Water-Pistol Robbery Death

In Chicago two youths with a toy pistol robs postal clerk Robert Ray. Ray shoots and kills John Benzie 18 when they flee to a car with a girl waiting. Tony Oliver 17 and Elma Crawford 21 are captured. the girl claims thrill of being a bandit queen. The bandits had prior robberies with the water pistol.
