Seidman and Seidman say 1951 furniture sales will near the 1950 peak with full year dollar volume likely to surpass. November orders fell about 1 percent from October, shipments down 10 percent from October and 16 percent from November 1950, with unfilled orders 40 percent lower than a year prior. Payrolls and employment show declines from 1950, while the backlog sits near 30 days of business.
The deputy register of deeds reports twelve couples filed for marriage licenses yesterday, a mix of High Point Winston Salem and surrounding areas. Names include Bobby Lee Byerly and Polly Adams, Lawrence Curtis and Sally Kennedy, Thomas Pardue and Dolly Martin, and others from High Point Winston-Salem Trinity Thomasville East Bend Trap Hill.

RED BLUFF Calif UP More than two dozen planes stood by to search for a Military Air Transport Service C47 missing on a Spokane to Fairfield flight with eight aboard. The plane left Fairchild AFB Spokane at 2 48 p.m. yesterday and was last heard at 4 16 p.m. over Klamath Falls Oregon. It was due at Travis AFB California at 5 28 p.m. Observers reported an orange colored light crossing highway 395 near Alturas Sus anville California around 5 p.m. but no plane or sound of engines was confirmed.
Obituaries report Earnest Russell of 812 East Main Street dying after long illness. Funeral rites were held at Liberty Methodist Church Randolph County with Rev C B Barr officiating. Also Sallie Jane Conrad 89 died in Lexington Memorial Hospital after extensive illness. She was a longtime Davidson County native and Pilgrim Evangelical church member. Funeral arrangements listed for Fair View Methodist Church with multiple ministers. interment at Conrad family plot. A third service covered Rev Conder P Jerome 94 retired minister, with services at Memorial Methodist in Thomasville and Edenton Street Methodist in Raleigh. interment at Montlawn Cemetery Raleigh.
Evyleen Cronin's adopted daughter Josie testified she saw actress Tallulah Bankhead hit Cronin many times while Cronin served as Bankhead's secretary and maid. Cronin faces charges of stealing 4284.60 by inflating 26 weekly expense checks. Josie said Bankhead instructed her not to protest and Cronin admitted funds covered Bankhead expenses including marijuana and cocaine. The defense rested after three days of testimony with cross examination highlighting past shoplifting and burlesque work by Cronin.
Thomasville sessions of the Recorder's Court will resume a regular twice weekly schedule tomorrow before Judge W. H. Steed. A light holiday docket is expected as the court returns after a Christmas break. The Police Department provides a substitute for Court Clerk Preston Bray who is on vacation until January third. Alfred M. Cohen, a Western Union messenger of 40 years, says he has delivered about 1,800,000 telegrams without riding a bicycle.
A second explosion rocked Miami area suburbs early today, four hours after a blast in Hialeah. Police could not locate the blasts, no damage was reported, and residents heard the noise. Warnings had promised further acts, with threats targeting churches and a Jewish center. Rewards total about $9,000.
The House Armed Services Committee scheduled early next year hearings on bills to authorize a separate academy for the Air Force.
