Proud D A Death Row Record Highlights NC District
In Lumberton North Carolina the 16th Judicial District of Scotland and Robeson counties leads the state with 22 inmates on death row. District Attorney Joe Freeman Britt touts his record of 13 plea bargains leading to life terms and argues capital punishment deters crime amid broad public support. The piece notes no NC executions since 1961 and places this district's high death row count in context with national data. It also mentions rising middle-class income, with families earning 20000 or more per year increasing from 6 million to over 12 million since the mid 1960s.
