In Manchuria a large air raid hit Mukden as 60 B 29s from Major General Curtis E Lemay’s 20th Bomber Command joined the assault. The attack targeted industrial facilities and signaled a major deep strike against Manchurian puppet forces.
Soviet forces drive the Red Army back the Germans on a 125 mile front in southern Slovakia near Kassa and Rimaszombat. Soviet columns surround the towns controlling highways to Bratislava Vienna and Prague as Berlin reports a new Hungarian offensive near Balaton and the Danube.
AP reports three or four Mariana based Superfortresses flew over Honshu in the night and early morning hours, with radio claims of no damage. Additional enemy bombers from China raided Manchuria at 10:30 p.m. Japanese time, with a second attack around 4:10 a.m. Eastern War Time.
A communique says results will follow as the 20th Bomber Command attacks Mukden on December 7. Giant B 29s claimed enemy aircraft damage after bombing an aircraft plant and military targets. three of the bombers were shot down or lost with 63 Japanese reported killed or damaged.

Concord New Hampshire December 21 veteran Republican leader George Higgins Moses aged 75 former U S major and three time United States senator from New Hampshire died last night at his home. He was once described as the most exciting man in American public life and lost his Senate seat in the 1932 Democratic landslide.
The Japanese Domei news agency said the mile long tunnel connecting Honshu with Kyushu will be done by December 30. Domei reported that construction began in 1938 and was monitored by the FCC.
Washington dispatch reports President Roosevelt urging state and local governments to begin planning projects under the 3.173 billion three year postwar highway program. Forty four state legislatures meeting in 1945 should give prompt attention to originations and project readiness for postwar construction. Congress authorized federal funds but did not yet provide actual appropriations. The plan aims to ease after war unemployment and includes modest highway development changes.
