New York stock market edged in indecisive trading with moderate activity. Aluminum stocks advanced while others showed limited movement as neon stocks provided little direction amid unofficial bid and ask ranges from NASD and other sources.
The Dow Jones averages show figures for the industrials rails utilities and stocks with midday values and volume totals. Industrials near 615 points, rails around 128, utilities about 98, and overall stocks near 204 with volumes listed.
In Rideway Virginia the 48 year old Edna Saunders Odell was found beaten to death in her living room. Sheriff Prillaman arrested her husband Nathan Odell and neighbor James Smith for investigation of murder. Medical examiner said death occurred 8 to 12 hours earlier from a fractured skull with savage injuries. The body lay until an ambulance crew moved it at the scene after being summoned by Odell’s brother John Saunders of Martinsville.
