Army Takes Over Baltimore Plants After Strike Block
Army officials took control of Western Electric Baltimore plants by order to restart production while management and union leaders remained deadlocked on labor policies. Brig. Gen. A A Farmer led the move with no troops on site, as about 6,700 workers belong to the Point Breeze Salaried Employer Association and 1,700 were Negro workers with many women. The union sought guaranteed seniority and rights for all employees after the army left, while employe groups disputed authority and scope of the seniority promises.
