Ninety Day Wonders build naval heroism traditions abroad
Navy’s Ninety Day Wonders, young reserve officers trained in months, form daring traditions alongside Annapolis. Class of about 50 officers, many commanding merchant ship gun crews, have faced torpedo attacks and at least one death within six months. Ensign Wirt P. Hoxie saved sailors from a torpedoed merchantman. Ensign Harry Brown survived a seven hour sea ordeal in North Atlantic hurricane conditions, with a life raft and rescued crew.
