Zoning Change Divides Council as Atchison Appeal Advances
The council, facing Atchison's request for a new zoning hearing, shows split support aided by newly elected member Dalton Myers. A conditional use amendment was urged as a path forward while comparing Atchison to Ernest Perkins, whose residential to commercial shift was approved. Perkins’ site now allows a used car operation pending legal use. Both petitions drew neighbor support, with arguments noting preexisting home occupations and nearby businesses. The meeting also adopted a Major Thoroughfare corridor protection resolution.

Greensboro considers large rezoning to planned unit development
The Greensboro board rezoned 609 acres northwest of the city to Planned Unit Development at Cardinal Corp request. Ed Risse urged caution to preserve environmental and design quality while developers promised 105 acres of open space and a school site. Airport noise and future runways were noted as concerns. A separate 154 acre site near Guilford College was approved for industrial use under conditional zoning with a 400 foot setback and a plan review requirement. A second 600 acre area near Friendly Road and Stage Coach Trail also received conditional zoning with 400 to 600 foot setbacks, drawing opposition from some commissioners and residents advocating buffers.
