Abbott Laboratories Charges Dismissed in 60 Counts
Federal Judge John D. Larkins Jr dismissed 60 charges against Abbott Laboratories over shipping adulterated medicines from its Rocky Mount plant. He cited prejudicial pretrial publicity by Special Prosecutor Howard Epstein and the FDA, noting the press release claimed 50 deaths among 412 illnesses linked to contaminated IV solutions. The judge called the conduct unconscionable and said the offenses were misdemeanors.
