U. S. Airmen Gain Control of Arawe Peninsula

United States Sixth Army troops have occupied the Cape Merkua Peninsula and overran Pilelo Island in the Arawe sector of New Britain. The invasion force, four days ashore, tightened control of the neck toward the air strip site while engaging scattered Japanese resistance.
