Barbara Jane Mackle, 20, Emory University student and daughter of Florida developer Robert F. Mackle, was abducted from a northeast Atlanta motel around 4 a.m. by two men posing as police. Her mother said she was choked and bound. FBI and DeKalb police investigated and withheld details as agents promised further statements.
At Raleigh Durham Airport a light twin crashed after takeoff in clear cold weather. Julia Davis Pollard 55 of Durham died. Her son and pilot Beachcraft Baron flyer Forest Alford Pollard Jr. 28 was critical at Rex Hospital Raleigh. Passenger Nancy Sue Dalton hillsville Va Piedmont stewardess in satisfactory condition. Pollard is general manager of Piedmont Aviation.
