Henderson to be Relieved as OPAC Chief and Brown Slated

Washington reports indicate Leon Henderson will be replaced as price administrator by Prentiss Brown of Michigan. Brown’s appointment, likely after a White House meeting, could ease rationing controls to free civilian supplies. Brown, once elected, would push for voluntary measures over strict enforcement and seek appropriations easier to obtain than Henderson.

Darlan Confirms Limited French Authority in Africa

In Algiers Admiral Darlan says his authority covers North Africa and French West Africa, not the entire French empire. He rejects plans for a coalition with other French movements and backs working with the United States and Britain while France remains unable to govern itself. He explains his shift toward Allied sides after the North Africa landing and discusses his actions during the armistice and Toulon events. He then departs for an east Algeria inspection by Martin bomber, escorted by British fighters. A Canton Ohio statue of Justice has yielded 400 pounds of zinc to scraps.
