UN sponsors seek a way to keep the 18 nation United Nations membership package alive amid uncertain support. The group explores options as sponsors face a tight schedule and possible veto risks in New York.
The package proposal failed in the Security Council with Nationalist China vetoing Outtèr Mongolia and the Soviet Union vetoing 13 non Communist applicants. Only one of four remaining Communist applicants secured a council vote as delegates debated next steps including reporting back to the Assembly or an interim session before the 1956 Assembly. Canadian Paul Martin and Indian V. K. Krishna Menon urged continued efforts though many saw little chance for change now.
A special investigating committee continues its fact finding at Wake Forest College. Chaired by Andrew J. Hutchins the group will relocate to Winston-Salem to interview deputies within the medical school faculty and staff and alumni groups as part of a study of the college administration of Dr Harold Tribble.
