Four prominent North Carolinians were named honorary members of the Duke National Council during Duke Day ceremonies on the Duke University campus. Recipients include Ward Harris Wood of Charlotte, W. N. Reynolds of Winston-Salem, Charles A. Cannon of Concord, and Dr. Robert L. Flowers, Duke president. G. G. Allen of New York was also named.

Eastern Tobacco Crop Heavier But Price Is Lower
The 1947 marketing season in the eastern North Carolina flue cured tobacco belt yielded the largest crop yet but fetched lower prices. Gross sales reached 483,572,005 pounds at 43.02 dollars per hundred. While volume exceeded 1946, the drop in the overall average trimly reduced the crop's value.
