Economy Case Continued Until Wednesday Week
The trial of Stephen Economy, a local photographer, on a charge of false pretense over stock in Mark Hopkins' estate was continued until December 23 by Municipal Court Judge Lewis E. Teague. Prosecutor L. J. Fisher and Lovelace’s return prompted the delay, as four attorneys lined up on each side for what promises a major legal battle. In court W L. Yow was convicted of arson and sentenced to two years on the county road, while Gilbert Moser pleaded guilty to trespassing after being identified as a former chain-gang inmate. He claimed he rode a freight train home and avoided knowing the law, earning a 12-month suspended sentence after the judge found humor in his remarks.
