The city received a $144 000 Public Works Admin grant and ordered Murray and Flood New York engineers to begin a preliminary survey of the Styers dam site. City Manager E M Knox said the contract allows payment of $25 000 when the engineers are ordered to proceed, to be disbursed from the advance grant.

Nine Die On North Carolina Highways In Weekend Toll
Nine persons were killed on state highways over the weekend in North Carolina. A grit truck struck a parked car near Scotland Neck killing Ernest Davis 30, Mrs Davis 25 and their son Charles 4.
