Three Killed When Chlorine Gas Released by Valve

Wallis Simpson Notified of Ex King Edward Plans

Cannes report states Mrs. Wallis Simpson has heard nothing from Prince Edward since his departure from England. A spokesman says Edward will not visit Cannes and Simpson stays at the Rogers villa while Lord Brownlow notes a car used by Simpson’s party was borrowed for his return toward London. The abdicated monarch intends to leave Cannes and may pause for a short vacation, avoiding any meeting with Edward.

Liquor seizures net three arrests in two raids

Police seized about 200 pints of bonded liquor near Oak and West Green streets and four quarts on the Greensboro High Point Highway. Arrested were W. F. Posey 42 with 500 dollar bond, EB Harris 28 with 300 dollar bond, and D A Fowler 49 with 100 dollar cash bond. Posey has a suspended liquor conviction.

Blaze at Chicago Union Stockyards Causes $50,000 Loss

Fire destroyed sheep and cattle holding pens on the western edge of the Union stockyards. Deputy Fire Marshal Anthony J. Mullaney said damage reached $50,000. The fire began in a wooden sheep barn and spread over a block by 500 feet, with 46 firefighting units and 200 men responding. The blaze was controlled about 90 minutes after the first alarm.
