Raleigh reports the house passed the unemployment insurance bill on third reading and sent it to the senate. The senate will meet Monday to consider the measure with aims to become law by Wednesday unless amended.
Report describes Edward arriving in Boulogne sur Mer aboard a British destroyer as speculation swirls about his plans toward Zurich and Italy. Meanwhile George VI is proclaimed king in London with royal pageantry and Wallis Simpson’s future unspecified amid abdication fallout.
The Irish Free State passed a government bill recognizing King George VI as head of the British Commonwealth and abrogating abdication in the Irish realm. The measure, voted 18 to 3, was signed after President de Valera urged adoption, while Governor General Buckley signed the related act abolishing his office.
Shanghai dispatch reports Marshal Chang Hsiao-liang demanding immediate war against Japan and emergency measures to protect Chiang Kai-shek. The national government says it wants Chiang released first and then will discuss actions. Censorship reported in Shanghai as mutineers show possible links to Communists.
RERIAN December 12. Three men Irving Metabrook 62 of Gorham New HampshireJoseph Accardi 47 and Joseph Tatangla 58 both of Berlin New Hampshire, all masons and fathers. They were exposed to chlorine gas then taken to St Louis hospital where Nicholas Galluzo James Galluzo and George Galluzo died.
The report notes repeated discussions with northern leaders over alleged Japanese aggression in Suiyuan and Chahar provinces during the past months.
KINGSTREE North Carolina December 12 Harry Bolick of High Point North Carolina injured in an automobile wreck near here two weeks ago has been dismissed from the hospital. He will go to Charleston for recuperation before returning to his duties as High Point High School football coach.
Cannes report states Mrs. Wallis Simpson has heard nothing from Prince Edward since his departure from England. A spokesman says Edward will not visit Cannes and Simpson stays at the Rogers villa while Lord Brownlow notes a car used by Simpson’s party was borrowed for his return toward London. The abdicated monarch intends to leave Cannes and may pause for a short vacation, avoiding any meeting with Edward.
Police seized about 200 pints of bonded liquor near Oak and West Green streets and four quarts on the Greensboro High Point Highway. Arrested were W. F. Posey 42 with 500 dollar bond, EB Harris 28 with 300 dollar bond, and D A Fowler 49 with 100 dollar cash bond. Posey has a suspended liquor conviction.

London December 12 George VI was proclaimed liege lord of the British Empire before St James Palace crowds. Sir Gerald Wollaston reading the proclamation from the palace balcony. Accession Council met to finalize the document amid medieval pageantry and police lines.
Mrs. Ethel Hutchens sues Betts Drug Co of High Point in municipal court for 7500 alleging daily sale of six ounces or more of paragonic to her husband over two years ending February 1 1936. She claims habit forming effects impaired health and reduced earning power, seeking 5000 actual and 2500 punitive damages.
State game commissioner John D. Chalk was injured but not seriously in a car crash while traveling from Raleigh to his home in Rockingham.

Fire destroyed sheep and cattle holding pens on the western edge of the Union stockyards. Deputy Fire Marshal Anthony J. Mullaney said damage reached $50,000. The fire began in a wooden sheep barn and spread over a block by 500 feet, with 46 firefighting units and 200 men responding. The blaze was controlled about 90 minutes after the first alarm.
