London reports King George underwent surgery to remove purulent fluid from around the base of his right lung. Some fluid was removed and further drainage will be necessary. The 3:20 p.m. bulletin noted slight morning improvement but signaled the need for additional procedures soon.
In Jackson Mississippi testimony to clear four Black defendants and one white man of conspiring to sell a federal office resumed after a government case claimed they plotted to sell the marshal post for the southern district of Mississippi. A. P. Russell testified paying Perry Howard $1500 but that claim was denied by S D Redmond who said he did not seek a position for monetary gain. Redmond said he accompanied Russell on a train but sought only to protect property and endorsed Russell for Magee post due to party support.
In Chicago a sixteen year old Negro youth, Ernest Whitehurst, fired on and wounded nine policemen including Deputy Commissioner Mullen. Surrounded for hours, he used tear gas and firearms, pierced barricades, and was killed after breaching a home and barricade.
The Empty Stocking Fund total rises to 700 with two morning gifts from the High Point Boxing Commission donating 100 and J. W. Clinard giving 25. The drive seeks broad city help as Mrs. W. C. Hammond notes more need than last year, urging checks of 1 or more.

A report claims the Mille Home Thomasville Baptist Orphanage was named beneficiary of a New York will and would inherit 60000. Supt. M L Kesler said officials know nothing of the bequest, noting a similar unverified report two years ago of 66000 from a North Carolinian James of Asheville. It is unclear if the new report concerns the same gift or a different one.
President Coolidge outlined the long path of aviation from ancient times to modern heavy lift craft. He cited U S aeronautics growth from 1926 to 1930 including 1590 million dollars in value and 15 500 miles of regular flying with plans for international lines. He said air transport will accelerate civilization and foster global amity and understanding.
New York December reports an undercover Prohibition tipster Thomas Harris alias James Marshall, 35, arrested for taking twenty five thousand dollars in bribes from at least 150 speakeasies. A three story public school in Morehead City North Carolina was gutted by a spectacular fire just before dawn. Fire units from Beaufort and New Bern aided local crews as the blaze, starting on the third floor near the ceiling from an undetermined cause, threatened nearby structures. the building cost 155000 dollars to erect several years ago.

The Public Health Service reports a rise in influenza deaths and the general U S death rate for the week ending December 8. Forty thousand five hundred ten disease cases were recorded across 29 states New York City and D C with 189 influenza deaths in 77 cities, up from the prior week. The national rate stood at 13.3 per 100 000, higher than a year ago.
The body of Walter Anderson, 55, a farmer from Greenwood, South Carolina, was found in a broom sedge field about a half mile from his home after three weeks missing. Negro rabbit hunters in the Riley area discovered the remains and a bottle with traces of poison was found nearby.
The jury in the suit by the state board of charities to revoke the Highland hospital license in Asheville, Dr. Robert S. Carroll, was still deliberating at 11:30 this morning. Judge W C Harris had heard no word from jurors since 9:30 last night.
