New Flogging Cases Raise Doubts Of Linkage

WHITEVILLE AP Sheriff B H Slugh Nance doubts the latest flogging tied to two prior attacks. Woodrow Johnson, 10, from Florence, S C, described two men luring him and forcing him into a blue 1949 Ford, then flogging him for 45 minutes before dumping him outside town. Two earlier victims, Robert Lee Gore and Clayton Selers, gave similar accounts. FBI involvement and no Klan ties noted.

United Press reports most Old Belt tobacco grades held steady to lower than last Friday as seven markets begin week 13 of sales. Most price losses ranged from 1 to 2 dollars per hundred pounds with some grades rising 1 or 2 dollars. Quality improved with more smok ing leaf and cutters and fewer Word script, while wand er script declined.
