Farmers in 19 Southern states vote on marketing quotas for cotton rice and tobacco. Each crop requires two thirds of participating producers for approval. Polls open by 9 a.m. and close by 5 p.m. local time with results announced after polls close.

James Thomas 31 of Windsor and Newport News shipyard work er was killed when his car crashed into a tree near the highway outside Windsor North Carolina early today. Goodwin Byrd said an unwary investigation indicated the crash occurred in the pre dawn hours and is being studied.
In December readers report that cotton rice and flue cured tobacco growers across 19 states gathered at rural schools and courthouses to secretly vote on giving the AAA power to regulate marketing. Officials estimate up to 2 500 000 farmers may vote as lawmakers eye the measure.

A Baltimore and Ohio eastbound Fort Pitt limited derailed near Holgate ten miles east of Defiance Ohio injuring three women who needed hospital care. Eight of ten coaches left the tracks as two engines stayed on rails with many passengers treated for cuts and shock.
Shelby sheriff Raymond Cline said a Morganton man, Erwin Williams, was taken into custody for questioning in connection with a $1,111 bank robbery at Fallston yesterday. The Oldsmobile coupe used bore Michigan plates and was reported stolen, with Williams claiming ownership. No charges were filed yet.

Columbus 58.3 percent lower, Cleveland 48.2, Detroit 45, Dallas 41, Newark 60 percent in ten months, while New York City reached 60 percent. Cleveland also reports 98 percent court conviction rates for traffic violations and uses public warnings to deter reckless driving.
