Drunken Boat Row Ends in Death Near Oriental
In Oriental North Carolina Theodore Harper Jr a 31 year old father of three was killed in a drunken fishing boat quarrel. Sheriff R A Wharton said Cleveland Langley owner of the boat and Leo Gibbs a Negro passenger gave conflicting accounts. Gibbs fell overboard then Harper demanded his coat. Harper’s demand led to a shot in the thigh followed by Gibbs shooting Harper in the head. Both men had weapons and were taken into custody.

Police Captain Slain In Fiery Gun Battle
In Saginaw Michigan an ambush led to a fiery downtown gun battle early today. Captain Daniel P. Waters 39 was killed. Detective Clarence Dietzel 53 and Parole Officer Eldon Johnson 44 were wounded.
