Rep. Philip A. Bennett of Missouri died at Naval Hospital in Washington after a heart attack. The 61 year old first term Republican represented Missouri’s sixth district and lived in Springfield. A former state senator, he served as lieutenant governor from 1925 to 1929.
The North Carolina Highway Safety Division lists revocations including Carter Simon Dooley, 39, High Point, Avery Leon Wood, and James Town, as residents from High Point and vicinity affected by license action.
Inspectors from the Fire Prevention Bureau found City Hall doors open inward creating a fire hazard in Atlantic City New Jersey They ordered the doors changed or City Hall would be closed to the public until safety requirements are met.
Washington dispatch reports 6,641 Japanese killed on Guadalcanal based on bodies counted, with additional devastation from sea, air, and artillery actions. Marines raiders claim 406 enemy killed in jungle fighting while suffering 17 U S casualties, plus riverfront and Tassafaronga strafing actions and a related security incident at a camp riot.
At Manzanar relocation center, one Japanese person was killed and nine wounded when soldiers fired on rioting Nipponese. Project Director Asaph P.
