Five South Moluccans free five children at Amsterdam consulate
South Moluccan gunmen holding about 30 hostages at the Indonesian consulate in Amsterdam released five children after threats were made against them. A mediator entered the building as scores of police surrounded the site. A separate hijacked train near Berlin with five hijackers and about 38 hostages remains under control, with troops and armored cars deployed. The gunmen demand Dutch support for independence for the South Molucca islands, a stance the Dutch government cannot grant. Police confirm Rev. S Mellary, a South Moluccan leader, entered the consulate briefly with children and left with two more.
