North Carolina general fund tax receipts fell by 484,099 in November as extended payments and nonrecurring refunds skewed results. Overall year to date collections rose 6.12 percent to 66,846,522 while highway fund receipts declined 366,007 to 7,393,541 and income tax receipts dropped 429,667 from last November.

Rep Bass plans legislation to shift acreage to soil bank, with base rate increases and possible doubling of tobacco payments. Destruction of 200 million pounds of unused light tobacco was proposed, while others urged disposal without loss. All urged ending the one cent per pack cigarette tax to curb demand and reduce surpluses.
A fierce fire in New Albany Pennsylvania destroyed the Rynveldt Wreath Co plant the storage barn and the town hall all wooden structures. About 35 workers fled the building as paint drums exploded and wind fanned the flames. Firefighters saved the new fire house and several rooftops were scorched with estimated damages around 400000 dollars.
