Wartime baseball talks hinge on night games and ball
In Chicago the major leagues discuss wartime baseball rules and travel curbs while awaiting joint sessions with Commissioner Landis. The NL backs seven night games in 1943 and a rubber core ball, while the AL considers 14 night games for most teams and a cork core. All agree on the 1943 All Star at Shibe Park with proceeds to the bail and bat fund, keeping 25-player rosters and extending the minor league pact. Frick cites Phils’ financial woes as a hurdle, unlikely to be solved in these meetings.
