Trials Set For Indian Leaders
U S District Judge Fred Nichol rejected a defense bid to dismiss indictments against six American Indian Movement leaders over the Wounded Knee siege. The consolidated trial of Dennis Banks and Russell Means will begin January 8 in St Paul Minnesota. One arson count was dropped. Over 100 people were indicted on charges from assault to arson. Two AIM supporters died and two federal officers were hurt in the occupation.
