Among old laws against Kissing those of Iceland appear to have been the most severe. Banishment was the penalty laid down for kissing an other man's wife, either with nor without her consent, and the same punishment was enforced for kissing an unmarried woman against her will.
The final meeting of an eight week series will be held Wednesday at 7 30 in St Marys Episcopal Church. Rev T L Trott will preside in place of James Gibbs as part of the national outreach of the Episcopal church to survey needs and completed work and outline remaining efforts.
Howard M. Hicks of High Point High School earned honorable mention and second place in the eighth annual inter-scholastic contest at Trinity College Dur ham. William Gwynn Head of Rockingham High School took the gold medal as top declaimer. Twelve speakers were chosen from 31 North Carolina high schools after three Friday preliminaries. Hicks performed France through English Eyes.
W. B. Young Guilford County standard keeper filed civil actions against a group of High Point grocers for using liquid measures instead of dry measures in selling goods. Justice D. H. Collins heard the cases in Greensboro Saturday, imposing 40 dollar penalties plus costs on each defendant. J. S. Guyer and C. B. Houser paid the penalties. the others appealed. Cases likely to be moved to Guilford superior court next term.
In Bay City Michigan on a November evening a Pere Marquette coal car broke through the exterior and into a home. The car rode through a wall and up to the bathroom door after being pushed from a siding by a switch engine, destroying the summer kitchen and dining room.
In Topeka Kansas on November 29 Edward C. Paxton for the United States Bureau of Crop Estimates cites a corn crop forecast of 64,365,000 bushels for the Sunflower State based on first yields and a 45 percent condition level as of October 1. The article also notes Bell Telephone equipment removal and asset sales, with a central office building sold to North State Telephone and rural lines sold to C. C. Muse. Some insect maturation timing is mentioned.
