Composer Stringfield Joins Chapel Hill as American Music Advocate
Lamar Stringfield, Pulitzer winner for From the Southern Mountains, moves from New York to Chapel Hill. The Wake County native aims to found a University of North Carolina department for American folk music to support the Carolina Playmakers and university music, with a forthcoming American opera. He comes from a musical family, studied at the Institute of Musical Art, and has held posts with the New York Chamber Music Society and Washington National Opera Association. His work spans flute performance, composition, and conducting across major ensembles and broadcasts.
